A coworker of mine, who is from Moldova, just casually mentioned that his dad is thinking of bringing his old Moskvitch over and asked me if it would be worth anything here if/when they decided to sell it.
How do you answer that kind of question? It’s not like Autotrader is full of Moskvitchs to give you a baseline. I told him it would be cool and it would draw a lot of attention at a car show, but I had no idea what somebody would pay for one and that if I had to guess I’d go $5k tops.

Maybe look at other obscure models on Bring a Trailer? I’d think you’d have much better luck finding the right buyer there than any other forum I know of (other than literally a forum dedicated to eastern European vehicles, which come to think of it is probably a good place to look if you can find one).

Those are both good ideas, thanks! I’ll pass them along. I did a quick Google search to see if it would pop any up and the only thing I found was a FP article where a guy claimed to have the only one in private hands in the country.

Huh, there’s one relatively close to me in Michigan. A bit pricy for my tastes (like, 10k more than I’d even consider paying) but would be pretty cool to see in person.

I used to have a Moskvich when I was a kid. Well, sort of...

Googling turned up a shit ton of die cast ones, which was kind of surprising.

Both that I’ve found are >10k, so there’s hope for a decent resale price. No luck finding a website for enthusiasts, but didn’t search for very long.

The correct answer is how much more it would be worth bringing over if he covered everything in plastic and thick rugs before packing it full of spare parts. Or, you know, just ship a crate full of spare parts over too.

It’s interesting that there are multiple cars claiming to be the only ones in the country. It’s also interesting that somebody thinks a unique, but crappy, car is worth that much money.

That is really hard to pin down. Here is a Warburg 311 wagon I was trying to buy from the guy who put it on an S-10 chassis. Back then he wanted $5k which was too much for me. Now it has a hideous paint job and they want $14k.........

If he can get it here for a couple grand he could enjoy it and at least recoup the shipping cost when he sells it. Unless he finds the type of weirdo who paints an east German car like a surf wagon......

Easy, tell him you’ll pay him a few thousand,
import it for yourself and then invite me over to see it
